Nokia 5800i Gets Approved by the FCC

Another version of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has been approved by the FCC. The 5800i is the version I am talking about and it’s probably going to be headed to China. The 5800i is going to be pretty similar to the regular 5800 version. In terms of features you can expect it to offer you WCDMA 900/2100MHz,quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and WiFi connectivity. That WiFi is a little strange for a Chinese considering that we’ve heard lots of rumors about the WiFi-less iPhone made for China. Or should we assume this 5800i is simply a refresh of the 5800? Are we getting that capacitive screen that was rumored a while ago?

Nokia 6760 Slide for Europe

Nokia has revealed that what is the Nokia Surge for the US will go to Europe and the rest of the world as the Nokia 6760 Slide. The repacked 6760 Slide actually has one major difference compared to the Surge, although with QWERTY keypads, avid SMS/email users are still the focus on both the devices. Apart from the same 2.4 inch QVGA display, microSD support, Bluetooth, A-GPS, FM radio with RDS, and Symbian S60 3.2 release operating system, the Slide features a 3.2 megapixel camera (compared to the 2mpx lens on the Surge) and European 3G connectivity with support for GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and HSDPA 2100 networks. The Nokia 6760 Slide will be available in the third quarter of this year across Europe and Asia at a price of 199 Euros (about $285).

Nokia’s Surge coming to AT&T July 19th

You know, we could have waited till August to feast our eyes on the Chocolate successor, and if LG had been able to keep this promotional video under wraps for just a few more days, they could have had the grand opening that they had planned for. The authenticity of the above video is debatable, but the video itself looks professional enough and confirms many of the features that we heard about a while back and more. According to the promo, the BL40, the fourth cellphone in LG’s Black Label series, will have a huge 4-inch (not 3 inches like we heard the last time) touchscreen display that is not only capable of 800×345 pixel resolution and a 21:9 aspect ratio, but can do multi-touch too. Other rumored features like a 5-megapixel camera, HSDPA 7.2Mbps support, and WiFi are all accounted for and the Flash-based 3D interface looks like a joy to touch through. A worthy iPhone competitor or not, the BL40 sure looks like a great heir to the ever popular LG Chocolate. Watch the video above and tell us if you think the same too!

Nokia 3720 Classic

Nokia has officially announced the 3720 Classic. As we have already seen last week this phone can handle quite a lot. It is waterproof, dustproof and shock resistant. The 3720 is made of very durable materials and the interior is sealed tight so nothing can interfere with the electronics inside.

Markku Suomi, vice president, Connect devices said:

Whether using it at the beach or in a dusty construction site, the Nokia 3720 classic has been specifically engineered to withstand the splashes, bumps and drops that come with the terrain. While the Nokia 3720 classic is tough on the outside, it is equally functional on the inside - a perfect choice for people who want a long-lasting and reliable mobile phone for any environment.

The phone will come with less than remarkable features like a 2.2-inch display, a 2-megapixel camera, a 1GB microSD card, preloaded Nokia Maps, a long-lasting battery and a LED flashlight. But then again this phone is made to withstand outrageous conditions so smartphone-like features will not be found in the 3720 Classic.

The phone will be available for around $175 when it will begin shipping this summer. That’s the full, unsubsidized price so you will probably get it for a lot less.

Nokia 3720 Waterproof and Dustproof Phone Coming Out in September

We’ve seen yesterday that the Nokia N97 is not exactly a waterproof phone although it can deal pretty good with water. If you want a waterproof phone you should wait for Nokia’s first, the 3720 which is coming out this September. The phone is dustproof too which makes it suitable for almost any environment. And if you’re wondering the 3720 is shock resistant too so you can go ahead and drop it anywhere and it survive easily. We don’t have any specs and pricing details just yet but we’re not expecting this 3720 to surprise us with smartphone features.

Nokia N97 Mini on Its Way Soon?

We heard earlier this week that Vodafone Ireland could sell a different N97 version dubbed as the Mini. The phone should be cheaper than the already launched N97 and you can expect it not to have the same cool features. That means a smaller screen, less memory, slower processor. But we can’t guarantee any of that since Nokia isn’t telling us anything yet. The Mini will arrive later this year and should match the current prices of T-Mobile’s G1. Vodafone hasn’t denied the rumor which means there’s a chance for Nokia to actually launch the Mini soon. The Irish Times is saying that “O2, Meteor and 3 Ireland all said they intend to sell the N97 but none was able to provide a launch date or expected pricing.”

What would you choose between the N97 and the Mini version? How much would you be willing to pay for it?

Nokia 5530 XpressMusic cell phone

If you couldn’t afford the 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia now has another affordable option in the same XpressMusic category that goes by the number 5530. Key features include a big touchscreen display that is 2.9 inches wide capable of display at 640×360 pixels, a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, a 3.5 mm headset jack, 70MB of internal memory which can be bumped up to 16GB via MicroSD (4GB card included), Bluetooth 2.0, and WiFi. Sadly though, the 5530 XpressMusic tops out with GPRS/EDGE network connectivity. We definitely like the price at just about $278, but the lack of 3G/HSDPA support will certainly be a big turn-off when the phone starts shipping in the third quarter of this year. Nokia E72 is now official

Well, that was fast! Barely hours after we first heard that there was such a device, Nokia has owned up and announced the brand new nokia E72. The much sleeker look and well-rounded edges aside, the nokia E72 gains a few more improvements over the E71. The monoblock, QWERTY-toting smartphone now houses a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, a 3.5 mm headset jack to appease music lovers, and Symbian S60 Feature Pack 2, just like we knew already. What caught our eye the most was the new optical Navikey, which seems like a cool way to blaze through the nokia E72’s menus and functions. Look for this one to land late in the third part of 2009 with a $489 price tag. Watch hands-on video after the break to see it in action.

Nokia E72 in the Works?

You thought that the E71 was a hot Nokia phone? Well apparently Nokia has a follower en route. The E72 is said follower and it appears it has been already posted and removed from YouTube. The phone will come with features like a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, an optical trackpad, a 3.5mm headphone jack and Symbian S60 FP2 for OS. We have no idea when the E72 is actually coming and how much it will cost but we’ll be waiting close by for this one.
