iPhone 3G Comes to Best Buy in Canada

We warned Americans when their Best Buy stores started to sell iPhone 3G and now we have to warn fellow Canadians that their Best Buy has also decided to pick up Apple’s handset.

Going to Best Buy Canada won’t help you get an unlocked iPhone. The prices are the same, $199 for the 8GB and $299 for the 16GB as long as you get a three-year contract from Rogers or Fido. So one more store selling the same product under the same conditions.

Sony to Launch Walkman NW-E020F Series in Japan

NW-E020F.jpg

Sony has announced the new line of stick music players — the Walkman NW-E020F series — in Japan. The Walkman NW-E020F model is a thin, compact, stick-like music player with an integrated USB terminal at the tip. Think thumb drive music player. The series currently has three lined products:

The NW-E026F (4 GB flash memory, expected to sell for US$149)
The NW-E025F (2 GB flash memory, expected to sell for US$120)
The NW-E023F (1 GB flash memory, expected to sell for US$102)

These models, which will be released on March 8 will be available in the colors: pure white and precious gold, Jewel pink and pink, forest green and ocean blue, blazing red and indigo, and black and shiny silver.

Since the Sony Walkman NW-E020F players have USB terminals integrated onto them, you can connect them with your PC directly for ultra-easy music downloads. The battery is also super efficient, promising three hours of play time with only 3 minutes of charging. The maximum playtime it can handle is 30 hours. The Sony Walkman NW-E020F series is FM radio equipped, contains color LCD with three lines for song info, can play MP3/WMA/non-copyrighted AAC/linear PCM music formats, 5 band equalizers, and can act as a normal USB stick.

The device can be sold as is, or could come bundled with a Sony Style-Up panel (pic after the jump), which could be used to pimp your Walkman. It also comes with a Sony EX monitor headphones, the MDR-EX90SL. Other accessories include leather carrying case, CKH’s clear drop-proof case, silicon case, a clip, and an armband.

Broadcom, semiconductor manufacturer for both wired and wireless communications, has announced that their Broadcom BCM2048 SoC (system-on-a-chip) is in the newest Samsung MP3 players — YP-P2 and YP-T10. The Broadcom BCM2048 SoC is a combined FM radio and Bluetooth chip. This means that the chip is responsible for the MP3 players being able to connect wirelessly through Bluetooth and receive FM radio broadcasts using said MP3 player models. The BCM2048 supports Bluetooth 2.0 completely, albeit being able to support 2.1 as well. In regards to the FM radio functionality, the Broadcom BCM2048 SoC features Radio Broadcast Data Service (RBDS) processing, high receiver sensitivity, and station information enhancements through intelligent Radio Data Service (RDS).

vAMP Virtual Album MP3 Player: To Replace CDs altogether?

vamp1.jpg

Everybody in the music industry’s moaning about the decline in sales. While it’s true CD sales are declining, artists and studios still get a cut off of digital music sales. Music bars selling physical CDs however, can’t do anything about the ever increasing popularity of digital music. Well, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, right? To address the issue, MediaStreet came up with the vAMP Virtual Album MP3 Player which aims to replace CDs off of music bars’ racks. MediaStreet touts it as the “smallest, thinnest, fully functional MP3 player.”

The concept is simple. Basically, the 0.7 ounce vAMP will sell preloaded with a whole album of an artist, with the album cover gracing the front of the MP3 player. Since the vAMP has a 1GB capacity, you can load it with other tracks of your choice. Other than that, anyone who buys the vAMP will also get access to both mydigitalcontent.com and BEYOND.FM. The vAMP will cost US$27.99 when preloaded with an album and US$19.99 when empty. I got a question for you though: If you already got a portable media player, would you really buy all your favorite artists’ albums in vAMP players?

Another pic after the jump.

Belkin Rockstar: Music in a Hub

Belkin%20RockStar1.jpg Belkin%20RockStar2.jpg

When sharing music with friends, loudspeakers are of course, expected. But if for some reason you can’t use a speaker system, then Belkin Rockstar makes it easier for you to share music with your friends. The device could be called a hub which features five ports where you can attach your headphones and MP3 players and one port that’s hard-wired to your MP3 player. Meaning you can plug two or more players in and go crazy with the new remix. It seems like a fun idea, but with small speakers being available nowadays, we can’t predict the how the public would take the Belkin Rockstar.

Belkin Rockstar would be showcased on Macworld 2008 next week (yes, it’s iPod compatible) and will be available starting March for USD$19.99.

The New Altec Lansing T612 iPod/iPhone Docking System

Altec%20Lansing%20T612.jpg

Altec Lansing has showcased a new iPod and iPhone docking system in CES 2008 the Altec Lansing T612. Aesthetically speaking, the speaker system looks okay, nothing too spectacular but nothing too outrageous either. It features neodymium speakers with bass enhancement technology. What gets me sold on this model, however, is the extra features it offers. It has iPhone call support, meaning the music stops when an incoming call is received. It also has GSM shielding so potential noises would not be picked up. The dock works for the iPhone as well as the new iPod models. For older iPod models as well as other MP3 players, an auxiliary jack could be used. The system comes equipped with a remote control for volume adjustment and track control. It will be available on February ‘08 and will retail for USD$200.
