Apple’s revamped suite is a slick and intuitive solution for time-crunched media mavens.

You have to hand it to Apple. It knows how to pile on the iCandy. This major upgrade of the iLife suite has in most of its components at least one “whoa, cool” moment when it does something deliciously neat. In iMovie it’s the skimming previews where you drag a bar across a thumbnail strip of video scenes to speed-screen your footage. In the iWeb site builder, you drop in live interactive Google maps for any address or pull in media directly from your online Web Gallery or iPhoto and iMovie. And the new Magic GarageBand feature lets you play in a virtual jam session with nine musical genres to choose from. Who needs Guitar Hero?

    Memorex Mega TravelDrive

This 12GB portable hard drive delivers more storage than the typical flash drive but not enough to warrant the high price.

If you need to carry photos, presentations, and music with you but not tons of video or sensitive information, you don’t need a 100GB portable drive. You can get a 10GB or 12GB drive, small enough to fit in your pocket but still large enough to hold everything you need. The 12GB Mega TravelDrive is a decent choice for taking large amounts of data with you, but you’ll be shelling out $150 for the convenience.

    Mavizen MyBlu

This Bluetooth-enabled remote control lets you make calls from your iPod and comes with an FM radio.

Not sold on the idea of a music phone? Mavizen’s MyBlu can join your regular cell and iPod together via Bluetooth 2.0 for less than $90. With this accessory (available in black and white), you can make and receive calls from your iPod, voice dial, and get caller ID on your iPod’s screen. Although the MyBlu’s phone controls are limited, call and music quality were quite clear.

Dell XPS M1730 Video and Other Gaming Notebooks at DigitalLife Event

Today is the kickoff for the DigitaLife event in New York. One focus of this event is gaming, so a lot of manufacturers have gaming rigs setup and many companies are showing off some of their latest game titles running on high-end machines. The Dell XPS M1730 and new Toshiba Satellite X205 with dual graphics cards are both getting a lot of exposure here.

    Dell XPS M1730 First Look

The Dell XPS M1730 has been officially announced by Dell, though that’s somewhat anti-climatic after months of leaks of pictures, specs and the fact it showed up on Dell.com two days ago. All the same, here’s a look at the latest high-end XPS notebook gaming system from Dell that features dual-Nvidia 8700 graphics cards and a dedicated physics processor.
